Welcome to fall! It is sure making its presence known from the start. Lot’s of wet weather to kick off the month of September. In August we did a little traveling and adventuring in lovely Colorado. We did 20 miles of riding and about 2100 driving miles. We took our time with the driving breaking up the days into manageable 6-8 hour blocks. Both mares did amazing. They got wet beet pulp/sweet water along with plain water at every stop and soupy mashes every night with electrolytes. They stayed well hydrated and happy the entire trip. We had a great time despite getting rained on the last few days – including on the 100! We used EasyShoe Versa Grip Glue On’s for this adventure. They worked great in the tough rocky terrain and in the wetter rain soaked trails. We just can’t be more happy with these shoes as options.

For this trip we gave a go at dying the shoes with Rit dye. It worked really well so the girls had matching shoes for the month. We used EasyShoe Bond Fast set for this application rather than the super glue. it is just as easy to apply and holds up really well to weather and tough terrain. You do need to have a specific gun for applying the EasyShoe Bond
The older mares really appreciate the added concussive support they get from the Versa’s. They all definitely travel better with them on. Added benefit that you can add plugs to the center to keep snow, mud, ice etc or you can use pour in pad products like Equi-pak. Having used both Versa Grip and the new Octo we don’t really have a preference of one over the other. They both work great. We are keeping the Versa Grip in all sizes requested on hand. As we get more requests for the Octo’s we will keep those sizes in stock as well.
With the seasons now volleying back and forth as fall attempts to take over from summer it is time to give the immune system a boost. We also used this before, during and after our travels on our trips this summer. Phyto Quench comes in both pellet form (includes Devils Claw) and Powder form without.

With wetter weather comes the risk of scratches. Keratex has been our go to product to prevents scratches and irritation from rubs for many years. The horses that are prone to scratches all get a liberal dusting before hitting the trails. It worked great to protect existing leg wounds from mud and water that would slow healing. This is a “must carry” item for the horse trailer and the barn.

Delivery Days – September, October and November
It is always best to get your order for the month in as early as possible. You can text, email or order on line. Please take a look at the schedule to make sure you have your orders in as early as possible. We will not deliver during wet weather. It is just too hard on some of the feeds to be exposed to moisture if you don’t have the ability to open the bags and let them breath a bit upon delivery. Putting the schedule out a few months ahead still seems to be working well, so we will continue to post three months of deliveries at a time. With fuel prices as high as they are we will be trying to be as efficient as possible in our delivery days. We are making fewer additional trips to town as well so our ability to fit in a last minute order is a little limited so may not happen as fast as you have experienced in the past. Special trips to town for that “I have to have it or else…” order will have a $10 delivery fee. If you need to, you can always stop by and pick up anything you might need, just give us a call ahead of time to schedule. The sooner you get your orders in the better we are able to plan, but not later than 5pm the night before your scheduled delivery day. With winter will come weather than can impact our deliveries. If we have to make changes we will let you know. It is always a good idea to plan ahead and have enough to carry your through an extra week if the weather keeps us from delivering as planned. The holiday has delayed our Standlee truck once again but we expect it to arrive this week. Get your orders in as anything we can deliver on Tuesday will go out so that we have less to do the rest of the week as we receive the truck. Thank you
