October News from The Ranch

Happy Fall!  Finally, our favorite season in Northern Nevada.  The days are cooling off, evenings are perfect for BBQing and hanging out with friends and the days are not too short yet.  After all of the heat and smoke in August and September we are ready to get back to normal.  Of course our local 100 mile ride was moved to October 16 so we will have a very busy weekend in Virginia City on 16 October.  There will be a limited distance, 55 mile and 100 mile event.  If you have ever wanted to see and learn about endurance this would be a great weekend to join us.  Let us know if you would like to volunteer or go to www.NASTR.org to sign up.  We would love to have you.

Be prepared for fall riding and booting for Virginia City/RRR

With fall upon us and clearer skies make sure your foot wear is ready for your fall adventures.

For anyone planning to ride Virginia City or the Really Rocky Rumble, you will want to have new boots to tackle this trail. If you are planning to glue on please let us know what sizes you want by 30 September to make sure we have your size in stock and ready for you. Same for those needing shoes. Don’t wait till the last minute to order.

If you think you want to have your boots glued on you will need to contact me early to set up a time. All gluing this year will happen at my barn. I will not be doing any gluing in Virginia city. Since I am managing part of this event I will not have time to glue on Friday. I am happy to bring supplies for you to glue yourself and check your work. Let me know what you need before the 30th of September.

Product Highlights

The past couple of months have had less riding and more standing around for the horses. You would think that this would be a good time for them to chill out and just relax. Here at the ranch the opposite has happened. They have used this time to ding, scratch, bite and kick each other into what seems a daily round of wound care.

Luckily we keep a good stock of Zephyr’s Garden items in stock. These all natural products actually work really well. Everyone has received their “last bath of the year” ritual with Zephyr’s Calm and Clean Shampoo. During the summer when the bugs were in full force we used Leave It Be shampoo for the ones that were so sensitive and itching like crazy

When it comes to dings and scratches Skin Rescue Salve is the ticket. For those areas that attract flies we use No Fly Zone Salve. These all natural products work really well. They are not greasy and you don’t have to worry about getting them on yourself. Admittedly I have used them for my own minor nicks and scrapes when working in the barn.

Hopefully now that we are back to work we wont need as many of these. We keep them in stock just in case! Happy Trails
