November News from The Ranch

Fall is finally upon us…maybe or maybe not. It is Northern Nevada so somedays it really is hard to tell. The storm this past weekend gave us a much needed dose of water. Hopefully we will get our normal beautiful November to enjoy.

For those of you who pull shoes for the winter be sure to check your boot supply to make sure you don’t have to miss out on any of the lovely riding weather that we so often get in November and December. The same goes for those of you who experience winter laminitis or have horses who may be at risk. Check your Cloud boots as well as the inserts to make sure you don’t need new ones this year. If you do please let me know so that I can be sure to have what you need delivered to you before you need it.

From the Easycare Website “The Easyboot Cloud is a therapeutic hoof boot system to give comfort and support to horses with thin soles, abscesses, founder, laminitic stages, stresses of shipping, recovery after workouts or stalling on hard surfaces. It provides instant and ongoing relief for horses suffering from chronic lameness and general lower limb or hoof problems by aiding movement and reducing recovery time after injury or surgery.” We love this therapy boot. We keep these available for our horses year round not just for the “incase of emergency” but also for shipping. They hold up well and breath nicely. If you have a horses that has suffered from Laminitis in the past be sure to have a pair on hand this winter before you need them.

October Adventure

Our October adventure included the Virginia City 100 and Really Rocky Rumble 25 and 50 mile events in Virginia City Nevada. This is by far one of my most favorite endurance events. If you have not visited Virginia City you simply have to. The history of this quaint little mining town is never ending. The endurance that the early settlers and miners had to have sets the perfect stage for the true grit that riders of these rides will demonstrate.

While we elected not to ride this year we were lucky enough to be part of the management team who put it all together. It was quite a feat with what seemed like daily challenges handed to us. But like all good endurance riders we persevered and the events went off nearly flawlessly.

My favorite part of putting on rides is laying out the trail and marking. This year was no different. We did have to do some rerouting of trail due to washouts and land management changes but it all came together nicely. One really fun event was when we were putting out ribbon and turned around to find a small band of mustangs following us. They did not seem bothered in the least by our activity and insisted on inspecting all of our work. Check out these perfect feet!!!!
