July News From The Ranch

Spring certainly sprang by in a hurry and now we are welcoming summer. I hope you all got to enjoy the few weeks of spring as much as I did. We were able to enjoy some lovely rides in Oregon and Idaho and good time with friends. All that travel was fun but made for busy times here at the ranch. July and August will bring more travel to Oregon and Colorado, Making the most of what we have it is the theme this year. Last years tragedies reminded us that life is short so set some goals and chase them. Enjoy what you have while you have it because it might not last forever. Thank you all for your patience while we grow the business while trying to balance in some personal time.

We are going to squeeze in as many deliveries as possible on Monday and Tuesday. To that end you need to have your orders in by Sunday July 2 to make sure you are on one of those days. For those of you who have already placed your orders, thank you and I will get to you this weekend. Anyone I don’t get to on the 3rd and 4th will be taken care of on the 15th.

With all of the riding we have been doing we started gluing on EasyCare Versa Grip Glue Ons. Super easy to apply with Easycare Super Glue, EasyBond or Adhere they provide solid hoof protection as well as extra concussion protection. Just for fun we added some color to our game by dying them. If you are not confident in gluing and prefer good old nail ons, then the Versa Grip nail on version is for you. Same great protection and concussion absorption with both options.

With the hotter weather suddenly upon us hydration will be important. Adding in electrolytes can be a game changer. We like the Perfect Balance Electrolyte by Peak Performance Nutrients. PBE comes in powder, single and multi dose syringe. Highly palatable and balanced you can add it to the daily wet mash or by syringe. Be sure to keep those wet mashes going with a base of Beet Pulp, either shreds or pellets. Plenty of clean water should be available at all times. Remember that trailer travel in warmer weather is also harder on our horses making electrolytes even more important.

With the warmer weather following on the heals of so much moisture comes the bugs. If you have not started your daily dosing with Bug NM now is the time. Bug NM makes your horses less appealing and helps to keep flies, mosquitoes and other biting insects away. By keeping away the bugs you also help lower your risk of insect borne diseases and keep your horse more comfortable.

For those sensitive horses who still seem to get the itchies, we love Zephyr’s Garden Stop Itch Spray and shampoo. Works great on dogs as well. To keep the biting insects away even more we use Zephyr’s Garden Simple Sumer Spray Concentrate mixed with water and apple cider vinegar. Vinegar is a natural tick deterrent as well so that is an added bonus since those little nasties seem to be more prevalent this year. These products are non-greasy and last several hours. Best of all they are all natural and are just as good for humans without causing irritation or rashes like harsh chemicals.

Delivery Days for July, August and September

It is always best to get your order for the month in as early as possible. You can text, email or order on line. Please take a look at the schedule to make sure you have your orders in as early as possible. We will not deliver during wet weather. It is just too hard on some of the feeds to be exposed to moisture if you don’t have the ability to open the bags and let them breath a bit upon delivery. Putting the schedule out a few months ahead still seems to be working well, so we will continue to post three months of deliveries at a time. With fuel prices as high as they are we will be trying to be as efficient as possible in our delivery days. We are making fewer additional trips to town as well so our ability to fit in a last minute order is a little limited so may not happen as fast as you have experienced in the past. Special trips to town for that “I have to have it or else…” order will have a $10 delivery fee. If you need to, you can always stop by and pick up anything you might need, just give us a call ahead of time to schedule. The sooner you get your orders in the better we are able to plan, but not later than 5pm the night before your scheduled delivery day. With winter will come weather than can impact our deliveries. If we have to make changes we will let you know. It is always a good idea to plan ahead and have enough to carry your through an extra week if the weather keeps us from delivering as planned. Thank you
